Zelensky's Attack on Vance & Trump Has Implications for Ukraine's Security
First of all, Vice President JD Vance is the real deal. He went to Munich and picked a fight with progressive Europeans in the defense of freedom of speech and freedom of thought. Today, he again rose to the occasion to fight for America by calling out Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky when the Ukrainian leader dared to imply the United States hadn't helped Ukraine since 2014 and tried lecturing his American counterpart and the Vice President of the United States as though he was in charge of the situation. He was completely ungrateful for all the United States has done, a fact that should sound familiar because Biden was outraged at Zelensky on a private phone call for the same ingratitude in October of 2022.
Now, as spring approaches and the threat of a new Russian advance looms, the recent visit of the Ukrainian President to the Oval Office has garnered significant attention. While the meeting was intended to strengthen ties and discuss crucial matters, Zelensky's behavior during the visit has raised concerns about the potential impact on Ukraine's security as their brutal war with Russia rages on.
Body Language and Public Perception
During the meeting, the Ukrainian President's body language was closely scrutinized. Observers noted that his demeanor appeared generally disrespectful: bored at times, annoyed and pestered at others. In high-stakes diplomatic interactions, body language plays a crucial role in shaping perceptions and influencing outcomes, especially when you are not a native speaker of the language of your hosts who are essentially your patrons paying a premium for your continued existence against a vastly larger, more powerful, and more wealthy invader. A more composed and confident presence could have bolstered Ukraine's position on the global stage, but he embarrassed himself with his body language, instead. However, Trump and Vance seemed more than willing to ignore Zelensky's body language. It was when he became verbally belligerent that JD Vance stepped up and defended the United States of America, and although Vance broke the diplomat mode before his boss, Trump was not about to be outdone. And I have to say, I love how these guys are teaming up. So, let's talk about that argument between Zelensky and JD Vance.
The Argument with JD Vance
So, as a reminder, Zelensky was here to talk about a rare earth minerals deal that would have led to American investment in his country that would put Americans and American financial interests near the Ukrainian border with Russia; which would strongly dissuade the Russians from attacking again and risking killing innocent Americans. Instead, the most talked-about moment of the visit was the argument between the Ukrainian President and JD Vance. While disagreements are not uncommon in diplomatic settings, this particular exchange was aired live and highly publicized. Disagreements like this have always been held behind closed doors and are handled more discreetly. Holding such discussions in private would have allowed for a more constructive dialogue and minimized the risk of damaging Ukraine's image. However, Zelensky could not control himself and his poor mannered and rude behavior destroyed all the diplomatic work the United States and Ukraine had put in to this.
Impact on Ukraine's War Effort
The shockingly public nature of the argument has raised concerns about its impact on Ukraine's war effort. At a time when unity and international support are paramount for the Ukrainian war effort and peace talks, any perceived discord can be detrimental. It is essential for Ukraine to present a united front and maintain strong relationships with its allies to effectively counter the Russian threat. By not backing down immediately when Vice President Vance called him out, Zelensky invited the rage of President Trump who had been doing his absolute best to maintain his composure. Instead of signing a rare earth minerals deal with Trump, Zelensky's American counterpart has now concluded that Zelensky doesn't want to end this war and the only way to make Zelensky sue for peace is to pull all US support for Ukraine; which will only help the Russians in their spring offensive by minimizing the effectiveness of the Ukrainian defense. Zelensky's behavior was probably the biggest foreign policy blunder of the 21st century: perhaps even worse than the American retreat from Afghanistan.
The Canceled Raw Minerals Deal
This withdrawn support includes President Trump's cancellation of a raw minerals deal that would have greatly benefited Ukraine. The deal was expected to provide much-needed resources for the country's defense, rebuilding, and economic stability. The loss of this opportunity underscores the importance of maintaining positive diplomatic relations and avoiding actions that could jeopardize crucial agreements. This is why Zelensky's publicly belligerent behavior is completely unparalleled in the history of international relations for the damage it has done to his country.
Insulting the Trump Administration and the Country that Voted Them In
To say Ukrainian President Zelensky's comments about the Trump administration have sparked controversy would be an understatement. While it is important to address past grievances, it is equally crucial to recognize the support that the United States has provided to Ukraine. In his first term as President, Donald Trump sent Ukraine the Javelin weapon system that helped them cripple wave after wave of Russian tank and force the Russians to retreat after their enormous gains at the beginning of the war. The phrase "don't bite the hand that feeds you" should have been front and center on Zelensky's mind the entire time, as maintaining a respectful and cooperative relationship with the U.S. is vital for Ukraine's security and future. Yet, he bit the hand and the President of Ukraine is coming back to his war torn country with an embarrassing loss on the global stage.
In Zelensky's Defense
If it seemed like it was amateur hour with Zelensky's performance in the Oval Office, that's because it was. Zelensky is an amateur politician. Before becoming the President of Ukraine, he was a TV actor and producer. His experience that made him most prepared to be the leader of Ukraine was a roll where he actually played a fictional President of Ukraine. In comparison, that would make Volodymyr Zelensky only half as qualified to be President of Ukraine as Harrison Ford and Leslie Nielsen are qualified to be President of the United States after having played a fictional President of the United States twice each. How many times have we seen fame make actors behaved like entitled children to their own detriment? Now imagine that actor becomes instantly world famous after leading his country to stand up to a Russian invasion. How could that not go to his head? So, between having NO political experience and having no instinct for how to behave in this situation where you enter the office with hat in hand asking for another bailout and having all that pride and entitlement caused by sudden fame and praise? For the sake of Ukraine, President Zelensky better figure out how to appologize and fast because, as Trump said, Zelensky is "gambling with thousands of lives," and slowly losing ground.
Zelensky Is Not Winning This War
Here at KTracy.com, we've written quite a bit about the War in Ukraine. If you like Ukraine's chances in this war, it's because you've bought into Ukrainian propaganda promoted by British intelligence.- In August 2022, it seemed like Russia was going to run out of Generals and they couldn't fill the void. There is no longer a void.
- In September 2022, after a surprise counteroffensive by Ukraine, everyone thought the war would be over quickly and Russia's defeat was imminent. That didn't happen.
- In December 2022, reports of Putin's failing health culminated with a report that Putin fell down the stairs and soiled himself. Putin is still a spitting image of health.
- In October 2023, it was reported that Russia had deployed 97% of it's Army in Ukraine. That turned out to be fake news, too.
Shortly thereafter, I wrote My Honest Assessment of the War in Ukraine; which still largely still relevant today. NATO was only using Ukraine to punish Russia with a costly prolonged war; which is why the Biden Administration only gave Ukraine just enough weapons and money to keep Ukraine in a stalemate and never enough to turn the tide of war. In the meantime, the eastern NATO countries were able to dump their antiquated Soviet weapon systems in Ukraine in order to make room for new American and western weapon systems. That's why it was so controversial when we said Pope Francis was right to tell Ukraine to negotiate an immediate ceasefire and peace deal with Russia, even if they lost land. In hindsight, Ukraine would have been better off if they had let Pope Francis negotiate a peace deal in March of 2024 like he called for. Ukraine has lost more territory than it's gained since then, and now instead of using Pope Francis as a mediator, Zelensky is forced to deal with a much hotter tempered Donald Trump as mediator. And with Pope Francis' health taking another turn for the worse last night, the opportunity to use the Bishop of Rome as mediator has passed. Zelensky has backed himself into a corner.
