Personal Update for the Upcoming Month

You wouldn't know it from the enormous number of articles and updates made in September, but the month was absolutely chaotic. As I have mentioned before, KTracy.com HQ will be relocating from the KTracy Tower to the brand new (literally) KTracy Estate. So, here's the story behind that.

Firstly, I give nicknames to all of my homes. My childhood home used to be "The Majestic Tracy Gardens" on account of my mother's beautiful landscaping, but I now call it "The Historical Childhood Home of Kevin Tracy" since it will undoubtedly be a protected landmark in a few decades. My last house was "KTracy Manor", the top floor condo I live in now is "KTracy Tower", and the new home is tentatively called "The KTracy Estate" largely because it is my hope that this is our forever house. Anyway, now that you know the names of the places, I'll tell the story.

Before I even met Katie, I knew I wanted to try dating differently by following the Catholic rules rather than making up my own rules as I went along. For the purposes of this conversation, those rules included "No Co-Habitation." So, after Katie and I were engaged with the help of the legendary Libido Funk Circus, I had the KTracy Manor remodeled a bit, packed up my belongings, threw out a lot of stuff, and went to live in my parents' basement from January to April when Katie and I got married at what was honestly the Wedding of the Century. Since then, I've been living in her cramped, two bedroom condo. We've made it work by combining my work from home office with Katie's work from home office, my drawing desk and supplies, and the guestroom. Honestly, I thought putting all of this stuff in one room was going to be worse than it has been. I've actually liked sharing an office with my best friend (and also wife).

But there are a lot of things I can't do in this condo. I can't plant vegetables. I can't cook on a grill; which creates a lot of kitchen mess. I can't do woodworking, gilding, painting, or anything like that. Given what happened last year, (when I narrowly avoided a mugging by thinking quick on my feet) Katie's not really excited about me going on my late night Rosary walks, either. Plus, Katie and I really want to have children, and there is no way we could raise a child in this condo with both of us working from home. So, with the help of all of the generous monetary gifts from the wedding, a gift from my uncle, and the profit from the sale of KTracy Manor; we're getting the KTracy Estate.

Now, there's a problem. The KTracy Estate was apparently never connected to the internet. Xfinity is coming out to fix that, but it's going to be a month before that happens. This means that I'm going to be moving around a LOT and the daily content you guys got on KTracy.com in September is not going to continue in October. We're going to be crazy busy leaving KTracy Tower, preparing the KTracy Estate, and working our day jobs in the process.

I'm actually pretty bummed about that since September was by far the best traffic month we had in a long time, something we'll hypothesize about after the daily content updates stop. But unique visitors was up 19% from August and total visits were up 18%. That uptick started after I made changes to the robots.txt file, added 301 redirects to the .htaccess file, and began removing content from the sitemap.

For what it's worth, I know I mentioned that I would be podcasting soon; but I'll try to make this coming lull in activity more productive by capturing video of some of the projects. In particular, I want to create a video about some opensource personal library software (Katie and I have a lot of books), an initial shop tour, an initial office tour, and probably some product reviews as Katie and I furnish our new home. So, at least there should be some good content coming in November and December that should help elevate what's happening to KTracy.com to a new level.

In the meantime, I want you to know how happy I am to have you checking out KTracy.com every day and look forward to entertaining you for years to come.
