Andor Is My Favorite Star Wars Project Yet
I was really skeptical coming into Andor, the latest Star Wars show on Disney+. While I really loved Rogue One, the character of Cassian Andor wasn't particularly interesting or memorable for me. Well, that's been fixed in Andor.
I've seen a lot of people complain about how slowly this show is coming together; but it's important to keep in mind just how many stories are being packed into this show. You have Cassian Andor's youth as being told in flashbacks of him as a child and clues about his troubled adolescence, the main story about Cassian Andor taking place in this series, the story about Senator (and soon to be Rebel Alliance political leader) Mon Mothma, the story of the infighting within Imperial intelligence, the story of Luthen trying to provide funding for his rebels, the mystery of fate of Cassian Andor's sister, the story of the Imperial takeover of security on Ferrix and the fate of Cassian's friends, and the story of Syril Karn whose investigation into Cassian led to the Imperial takeover of the system. Additionally, there's the promise of someone new coming into the show who can help even further. My hope is that it's Anakin Skywalker's padawan Asoka Tano, but I'll probably be delighted regardless.
What's really cool about all of these stories is that it's all necessary to tell a Spy vs. Spy story in all of the realistic complexity a true intelligence and counter-intelligence battle would have. My biggest concern is that the slow burn of this story and the limited number of episodes left will leave us waiting until next season for most of the payoffs and a satisfying conclusion.
Even then, as a former intelligence analyst, counter-terrorism analyst, and student of asymmetric warfare; this show is freaking awesome and I'm enjoying it more than any Star Wars project to date.
