Indiana Ban on "Dismemberment Abortions" in 2nd and 3rd Trimesters Allowed to Take Effect!

UPDATE 8/6/22: Indiana passed a new, more complete abortion ban! Read about it here!

In states across the country, trigger laws are kicking into effect and old court rulings are being overturned affirming every American's Right to Life!

Finally in my home state of Indiana, a law banning dismemberment abortions (except to protect the life of the mother) was allowed to take effect! US District Judge Sarah Evans Baker had previously banned the law, citing US Supreme Court rulings in Roe and Casey; which were overturned several weeks ago! Because the old rulings were overturned and states were restored their freedom to protect life, she lifted her order banning the law!

Dismemberment abortions are those where an unborn child has his or her limbs violently severed by a doctor of death as a suction tube removes the child's body parts from the womb. I believe it was the type of abortion seen in the film Unplanned about Abby Johnson's journey with Planned Parenthood. (I could be mistaken as it's been a few years since I saw the film)

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb issued a statement about Roe v. Wade being overturned last month:

"The Supreme Court's decision is clear, and it is now up to the states to address this important issue. We'll do that in short order in Indiana. I've already called the General Assembly back on July 6, and I expect members to take up this matter as well.
I have been clear in stating I am pro-life. We have an opportunity to make progress in protecting the sanctity of life, and that's exactly what we will do."

There was already $1 billion in state reserves and a special session to decide how to give that surplus back to Indiana tax payers was already underway (I love my red state). That special session has been pushed back a few more weeks until July 25th so leaders had time to prepare a bill to ban abortion outright in Indiana (except to save a mother's life... just assume that caveat from now on). Because Republicans have a "Super Majority", Democrats won't be able to stop the ban by staging a walk-out.

I love my red state.

Despite this, Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita filed a case to have the previous ban on the law lifted, potentially saving hundreds (maybe thousands) of lives in the process.

A thank you is owed to our future Governor, Todd Rokita, for taking action where he could and saving lives before the state-wide abortion ban law can be written, debated, passed, signed, and implemented.
