Joe Biden Takes Unexpected Stab at Richard Blumenthal
This is why I like Joe Biden.
According to different media outlets, the Vice President was at an event for wounded soldiers when he said, "I didn't serve in Vietnam. I don't want to make a Blumenthal mistake here. Our attorney general from Connecticut, God love him." Realizing that he just attacked a Democrat, Biden went on to say, "I have a bad habit of saying exactly what I think."
Richard Blumenthal had said on several different occasions that he served in Vietnam, when in truth, he served during Vietnam but never in Southeast Asia. There's nothing dishonorable about not seeing combat while in the service, heck myself and a good number of the people I served with never saw combat or went to the sandbox, yet our work had a very positive impact on the war effort nevertheless. (I also have many friends who did see combat, so I'm by no means lumping everyone I served with into the non-combat category) The difference us and Blumenthal is that those of us who never served in the desert never said we had served in the desert or any other war zone for that matter.
I'm not saying that Blumenthal served dishonorably as a Marine. I have nothing but respect for his service to our country. Everyone who serves could potentially put their life on the line for their country, but only those that have their life put on the line for the country should have the right to say so and the respect of the people that comes along with that. Lying about how you served for selfish purposes, like Blumenthal did, really ticks me off. If a Republican did this, I would say the same thing!
I may not agree with Joe Biden on a lot about domestic policy. However, I must give credit where credit is due and Joe Biden deserves credit for being on the list of those of us who find Richard Blumenthal's self-serving, false claims unacceptable.
