Kevin Tracy Will Be At the Portage School Board Meeting but Won't Speak
In my last post, I said I would raise my concerns at the upcoming school board meeting over whether the JROTC cadets should be allowed to be present, in uniform, for part of the upcoming Tea Party.
I usually keep my word, but it's come to my attention in the past couple of days that this is just a simple case of an unstoppable object in motion hitting an unmovable object. There is a easy, non-political solution to this entire mess, which is to follow military regulations on political involvement. However, the liberal said something mean about the conservative and now the conservative wants revenge... by means of bringing an angry mob to the school board meeting.
I'll be there simply because I want to see what happens first hand. However, it's obvious that both players are more interested in petty politics than doing what's right. So with that said, there's no point in stand up and reminding them that there's a non-political fix to this whole mess that lets everyone save face.
I did ask a Marine recruiter whether this was acceptable. His exact words were, "Absolutely Not!" I also spoke to several members of the military and other veterans, and their first responses were all the same as mine.
On an administrative note, Faith Jones is suggesting the JROTC came to her and requested to be allowed to perform Color Guard duty. That wasn't the understanding I had as I wrote the previous post. With that said, the title is probably a bit inaccurate. HOWEVER, the fact remains that the Northwest Indiana Patriots are in the position to be the "bigger person" and make this whole controversy about the JROTC and the cadets therein go away.
So what happens when an unstoppable force meets an unmovable object?
I have no idea. That's why I'm still going. But instead of a speech and military regulations, maybe I'll bring some popcorn.
