Victory Night: Mike Huckabee Wins 2008 Iowa Caucuses
After Christmas in 2007, Kevin Tracy travelled to Iowa to help push Mike Huckabee over the finish line for the Iowa Caucuses. It was the culmination of months of hard work from an army of volunteers from around the country, many of whom spent their own money to come to Des Moines, Iowa for the same purpose. Kevin Tracy was at the victory party and said of the event later, "We were expecting a close night, and knew Mitt Romney had millions of dollars invested in voter turnout in the Caucuses, so when the race was called for Mike Huckabee, the room exploded in celebration. You would have thought we blew up the Death Star."
Everyone in the room was exuding ecstasy; which was only soured when we learned that Mike Huckabee's speech was delayed nearly two hours simply because he was waiting in vain for Mitt Romney to call to concede and congratulate him.
The speakers that night included Ed Rollins and the Iowa king maker himself, Bob Vander Plaats.
